The FetchDx® Dog Urinalysis and Reflex C&S Mail-In Kit with Wee Wand™ Cup (D-U-CS-C) or Wee Wand™ Sponge (D-U-CS-S) from QSM Diagnostics® does just that. The Urinalysis and reflex C&S (Culture ID & Sensitivity) kit is recommended when a UTI (urinary tract infection) is suspected or is being monitored.
The pet parent collects the sample, registers it at https://app.fetchdx.com, and sends it to QSM Diagnostics for analysis. Kits include pre-paid return overnight shipping labels. The lab processes samples 6 days a week. Urinalysis and UPCR tests are completed within 1 business day of arriving at the lab. If signs of infection are present in the Urinalysis results, the C&S testing is performed automatically, and the results of the C&S are reported 2-3 days later. All results are sent to the veterinary clinic and shared with the pet owner 3 days later.
Included in each kit box is a Wee Wand™ with a sterile cup, along with everything the client needs to collect, register, and ship the sample to QSM Diagnostics for testing.
The results include Quantitative Protein and Creatinine for Urine Protein-Creatinine Ratio (UPCR), Specific Gravity using a refractometer, Glucose using a meter, Ketones, pH. Urobilinogen, Bilirubin, Blood, and microscopic sedimentation analysis for White Blood Cell Count, Red Blood Cell Count, Bacteria Count, Epithelial Cells, Mucus/Lipid Particles, Casts, and Crystals.
C&S testing is triggered when bacteria are present at >5 cells/high powered field, white blood cells are present at >5 cells/high powered field, specific gravity is low, or UPCR is high. Bacterial Identification and Sensitivity is completed using a Biomerieux Vitek 2 Compact instrument. If identification of individual bacterial species is not successful with this technique, the sample is sent for Next Generation Sequencing analysis.
